Dylan, no 3d but plenty of photo ref. Some stuff taken myself but I also found a lot of good (but daft) stock photography here: http://mjranum-stock.deviantart.com/gallery/

I'm drawing on the iPad in Sketch Book Pro with a Griffin stylus. It's limited to iPad screen res and there's no pressure sensitivity, but it's a lot cheaper than a Cintiq!

I just don't trust myself to make any decisions when inking so have to work everything out up front... and I can't judge the black/White balance without filling in... I wish both weren't true!
